“It’s lovely to have someone coming to visit me for a chat rather than always coming
to do something for me, like the cleaner, gardener or district nurse.” -
Winchester Live at Home Scheme offers a number of One to One services including Befriending, short term shopping, Bad Weather Scheme and Telephone Link.
Befriending is the basis from which the Scheme started originally and it embodies everything the Scheme stands for. One to One Volunteers offer friendship to older people who are isolated, possibly housebound and who often feel socially excluded. Our Volunteers currently befriend around 90 Members.
We are able to offer a short term shopping service for Members who are unwell or who have recently been in hospital.
Members of the Bad Weather Scheme will be contacted by their matched Volunteer in the event of snow or ice to see if they need any particular help, including shopping.
Our Telephone Link Service matches a volunteer to a member for a regular telephone
